Duke Told to Pay Fees to Female Athlete
A federal appeals court ordered Duke University last week to reimburse a former female football player the $350,000 in legal fees that she incurred while pursuing a gender-discrimination lawsuit against Duke for having kicked her off its football team.
In a unanimous decision that upheld a lower-court ruling, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said that because the litigation brought by the former student had "served an important public purpose,"
