Duke Develops Professionals From Within

For 11 months, much of Tera Caldwell's time after work was spent in classes learning business writing, interviewing skills, customer-service techniques, and the financial systems of her employer, Duke University. A twice-a-week internship gave Ms. Caldwell, an accounting clerk at the time, the chance to perform such tasks as helping to reconcile financial statements.

In July 2007, Ms. Caldwell graduated from the office-staff-development program offered by Duke's Professional
