Duke Committee Issues Proposals to Improve Undergraduate Campus Culture

A Duke University committee assigned to examine campus culture after last spring's lacrosse scandal issued 28 nonbinding recommendations last week to promote "social responsibility and mutual respect" over what it called a "culture of excess."

Duke should organize alcohol-free social events, take away fraternities' prime campus real estate, and raise admissions standards for athletes while decreasing their practice and travel obligations, the committee proposed. Students should be
