In a policy plan for veterans that he announced yesterday, Christopher J. Dodd, a Democrat and U.S. senator from Connecticut, said he would improve the federal government’s education benefits for those who have served in the military.

Under current law, Mr. Dodd said troops must agree to reduced paychecks for their first year of service so they can get benefits later on if they go to college, according to the Des Moines Register.

“In my administration, no solider will have their salary cut to pay for this program,” Dodd was quoted as saying. “Education benefits will extend to all four years of college, and [people] will have the ability to transfer these benefits to a spouse or a child.”
