Doctoral Degrees in Art

I am glad to see that The Chronicle has shined a light on the new American Ph.D. for visual artists, in Daniel Grant's "How Educated Must an Artist Be?" (The Chronicle Review, November 2). Broad, in-depth consideration of this important development in the history of American graduate education would be timely and welcome. In the meantime, I offer one or two comments.
