Do Teachers at Community Colleges Need Doctoral Degrees?

I think those who are averse to hiring Ph.D.'s tend to misrepresent the essential facts in order to advance a blatantly self-serving agenda ("More Community Colleges Push to Hire Ph.D.'s as Professors," January 8).
First, most people who earn Ph.D.'s are highly qualified teachers. In most disciplines, especially English, Ph.D. candidates spend years supporting themselves teaching freshman
