Disease-Causing Mineral Found in Volcanic Ash
Recent volcanic eruptions on the Caribbean island of Montserrat have spread ash containing a mineral capable of causing lung disease, scientists have found.
The discovery, coupled with other research on the island that has improved the ability of scientists to predict volcanic activity, may make it easier for civil-defense officials to lessen the risks to people who live near volcanoes.
