Discrimination in Hiring

In "Faculty Hiring Preferences and the Law" (The Chronicle Review, May 19), Roger Clegg of the Center for Equal Opportunity provides a compelling depiction of the not-very-secret hiring practices biased on account of sex, race, and ethnic origin — practices that, while flatly illegal, are nevertheless the norm at many American colleges and universities.
