Background: Magner joined The Chronicle of Higher Education in 1988 as a general-assignment reporter. From 1990 until 2001, she was a reporter in the Faculty section, and she took over editing the section in 1992. After serving in that job for eight years, she moved to the Careers section. She edits the essays published there, both in print and online, and oversees The Chronicle’s popular online forums as well as its On Hiring blog.
Before joining The Chronicle, she was a reporter at the Kalamazoo Gazette, in Michigan, for three years. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
