Democrats and NIH Agree on Bills to Bolster Research on Minority Health
Democratic lawmakers and officials at the National Institutes of Health have agreed to proposed legislation to bolster research on minority health at the N.I.H.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, and Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, both Democrats, introduced similar bills last week after discussions with N.I.H. Director Harold E. Varmus, who had opposed a comparable measure proposed last summer by Rep. Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. (The Chronicle, September 10).
