A suspect arrested in the shooting of two undergraduates last Friday at Delaware State University had apparently been in an altercation with one of his victims earlier in the week, according to the arrest warrant, The News Journal, a newspaper in Wilmington, Del., reported this afternoon. The suspect, Loyer D. Braden, an 18-year-old freshman from East Orange, N.J., had been in a fight in which one of the shooting victims spat in his face.
He “did not want to let the [previous] altercation stand,” the warrant says. Mr. Braden was charged with one count each of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and reckless endangering, according to the university’s Web site. He was being held this afternoon on $75,000 bail. —Martin Van Der Werf
