Decisions About Work and Careers: What a Modern Liberal Education Should Include

The points in William Ian Miller's "Pretension and Pomposity in Academe" were beautifully illustrated by Marshall Gregory's "A Liberal Education Is Not a Luxury" (both in The Review, September 12). Gregory's essay, an impassioned panegyric, gives us a multitude of bromides on the benefits of liberal education. ... His comments on liberal education are close to mystical, as there is a stunning lack of specificity.
