Deaths of 3 College Football Players Worry Athletics Officials
College football coaches brag about how much more humane summer practices are these days.
They don't deny their players water or feed them salt tablets during practice, as many of their own coaches did a generation ago. They have platoons of trainers and coaches on hand, ready with state-of-the-art equipment to treat injuries as well as low-tech remedies like Popsicles to beat the heat.
That doesn't mean football is safe.
