Dancing at the Speed of Light, Via the Web

"It's all about bandwidth, baby," says Danial Shapiro, a Minneapolis choreographer who earlier this month helped stage two multisite, "networked" performances that he says were without precedent.

Mr. Shapiro, a founder and artistic director of Shapiro & Smith Dance, worked with three dozen student and professional dancers in three cities who performed together. A week of rehearsals and high-speed-network tests culminated in two multimedia dance performances for a live audience at
