Dads, Kids,and Sexism
To the Editor:
Rex Sayers's "The Kid Question" (Careers, December 21) was charming but lacked any sense of gender dynamics in the academy. He writes: "One of my favorite teaching techniques is to wake up a sleepy class by telling stories about my kids."
This is, to some degree, a privilege of male faculty members. For female faculty members, frequently telling stories in class about the kids can mean being taken less seriously as a teacher and
