Way back in 1989, the police drama Wise Guy featured the Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey as a record-company executive who guided an undercover agent, Vinnie Terranova (played by Ken Wahl), through the thickets of the modern music industry. Playing Virgil to Vinnie at a packed rock concert, Frey boasted that the band on stage had sold over two million CD's and cassettes.
"What about record albums?" asked Vinnie.
"Vinyl," sneered Frey, "is over."
