D.C. Students to Receive College-Tuition Subsidy

President Clinton signed legislation this month that will allow recent high-school graduates in the District of Columbia to attend public colleges in Maryland and Virginia at in-state tuition rates.

Under the $17-million measure, eligible District residents will receive up to $10,000 a year to pay the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at those institutions. The Washington Mayor's office will administer the subsidies.
