Cuts at Clarion U. of Pennsylvania Would End 18 Tenured Faculty Jobs

Sizable cuts in state support and an enrollment slump that is expected to deepen will result in the loss of 18 tenured faculty positions at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, under a plan released last week that may also presage similar cuts at other public institutions in the state.

"We're very worried about the future of the school," said Elizabeth J. MacDaniel, chairwoman of Clarion's English department and president of the campus chapter of the faculty union.
