Critical Audit Prompts Firing of President at Community College of Denver

The president of the Community College of Denver was fired today after an audit of the institution found financial improprieties, according The Denver Post.

The president, Christine Johnson, who took office in 2001, was put on administrative leave, and her contract will not be renewed when it expires, on July 1, according to the Post.

The audit found that, among other things, Ms. Johnson had directed the college’s chief financial officer to lie about how much money the college had on hand and had approved of paying student-recruiting fees to an instructor in violation of federal law, according to the Post.

The Denver Business Journal reported that the audit also found that the college had sold course credits to students who wanted to remain in the United States on student visas. —Elyse Ashburn
