Court Could Increase Size of Asbestos-Settlement Fund

A $50-million settlement fund slated for colleges that paid for the removal of asbestos-containing materials from their campuses may grow even larger.

A hearing will be held on March 19 in a South Carolina federal district court to decide whether to approve a proposed $35.5-million settlement with the United States Gypsum Company, a major producer of construction materials that contained asbestos.
