Constitution Day and After

To the Editor:

Can a federal law inspire students to learn more about a living document and the dead men who wrote it ("That Confounding Constitution," The Chronicle, October 7)? Perhaps not by itself, but the recent law requiring that the Constitution be taught each year on Constitution Day has certainly garnered attention. What seems indisputable is that there is a need for more civic learning in America's classrooms.
