Congressional Compromise on Budget Resolution Gives Colleges Little to Celebrate

Republican leaders in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have reached agreement on a final budget plan for the 2005 fiscal year that includes little new money for federal student aid.

The plan, which the House narrowly approved last week, was the product of almost two months of negotiations between the budget committees in each chamber.

But as far as college lobbyists were concerned, the lawmakers should have kept working on it.
