Congress Votes to Renew Patriot Act, With Revisions to Permit Legal Challenges
Congress has voted to renew the USA Patriot Act, ending — at least temporarily — months of wrangling among lawmakers about the scope of civil-liberties and privacy protections in the controversial antiterrorism law. But critics, including academic-library groups, said they would continue to mount challenges to the act.
