Congress Holds Hearing on Women in the Sciences
Several higher-education leaders testified before Congress last week on the continuing underrepresentation of women in tenured faculty positions in science and engineering. The proposals they put forth included the creation of an NCAA-style organization to monitor the hiring practices of academic departments and urge them to comply with federal laws banning gender discrimination.
