Congress Approves Aid for Supercomputer Research

Congress has given final approval to a bill ordering the Energy Department to bolster its research in supercomputing and to expand academic researchers' access to supercomputers. President Bush is expected to sign the legislation.

The bill, HR 4516, instructs the department to "deploy a high-end computing system that is among the most advanced in the world in terms of performance in solving scientific and engineering problems." The Senate passed the bill in November, making minor
