Communist Party of U.S. Gives Its Vast Archive to NYU

The Communist Party USA has donated its huge archive to New York University, The New York Times reported this morning. The collection covers nearly a century of American social, political, economic, and labor history, and will be of particular value to scholars because it also contains copies of key documents from the Soviet Union. The donation, which seems to have been hurriedly arranged while the Communist Party was vacating its offices in New York, surprised the NYU librarian who will oversee the archive. Michael Nash, director of New York University’s Tamiment Library, said that when he got a call from the party, “I didn’t really realize it still existed.”
