Commerce Department Hands Over '.edu' Domain to Educause

The U.S. Department of Commerce has officially handed over management of the ".edu" Internet domain to Educause, the academic-technology consortium. The department and the organization have also changed the rules for the ".edu" domain to admit two-year colleges, reversing a policy that had excluded them.

The change became final last month, when officials of Educause and the department signed a five-year cooperative agreement that largely turns over the registration and policy-making
