Commencement Speaker Is Shouted Down for Remarks on Civil Liberties
So much for free speech.
The winter commencement address at California State University at Sacramento was cut short last month when some audience members, upset by the speaker's remarks that criticized the curtailment of civil liberties after September 11, stomped and booed.
Janis Besler Heaphy, publisher and president of The Sacramento Bee, left the podium about halfway through her 10-minute speech.
