Columbia's Choice for Mideast-Studies Post Draws Criticism; Dean Will Help Found Graduate Management School at UC-San Diego
ANOTHER MIDDLE EASTERN SPAT? Columbia University's new endowed chair in Middle Eastern studies -- which is named in honor of Edward Said, the university's leonine professor of comparative literature -- has been offered to Rashid Khalidi, a professor of history and Near Eastern languages at the University of Chicago. Even though Mr. Khalidi has not yet made a decision about the offer, it is controversial in some quarters.
