Columbia U. Kicks Off $4-Billion Campaign

Columbia University has announced the public phase of a seven-year effort to raise a record-setting $4-billion in private donations.

The kickoff late last month on the university's campus in New York City signaled the beginning of the largest fund-raising campaign in higher-education history. The effort, which started in 2004 with a two-year "quiet phase," is expected to end in 2011.
