Columbia U. Agrees to Continue Operating Biosphere 2
Columbia University has agreed to operate the once-derided Biosphere 2 Center, near Tucson, for an additional 10 years, and says it will significantly increase the volume of research and number of students there.
The owner of the complex, the reclusive oil millionaire Edward P. Bass, has pledged to give Columbia $30-million over the next decade to support renovations at Biosphere 2. The university plans to spend $20-million as well over the next five years,
