Colleges in New England Cut Back on Admitting Athletes
About half of the members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference have decided to reduce the numbers of athletes in next fall's incoming classes. Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury, and Williams Colleges, along with Wesleyan University, will admit fewer "recruited" students -- those for whom prowess in athletics is the difference between being admitted and being rejected by the college considering them.
