Colleges Won't Collect Foreign-Student Fees
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has significantly improved the federal database that tracks foreign students, but problems persist with the system, according to a General Accounting Office report released in June.
In particular, the GAO report urged the department to start collecting a $100 fee from foreign students to help pay for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, or Sevis.
That fee was the source of some controversy as higher-education lobbyists
