Colleges Retain Their Part of the Broadcast Spectrum
Colleges are cheering a decision by the Federal Communications Commission this month to allow educational institutions to retain control over their unused portion of the broadcast spectrum. They use the spectrum mainly to show educational television programming.
The commission had been considering a plan that would have allowed businesses to compete for the unused part of the spectrum. Colleges and schools have not been exploiting a portion of the spectrum they have been assigned,
