Colleges Incorrectly Billed for Domains
More than 6,000 colleges and other organizations using ".edu" Internet addresses received an unexpected -- and incorrect -- bill last month from the Web-registry company VeriSign asking them to pay to renew their ".edu" addresses. The incorrect billings -- which amounted to about $70 each -- were a result of a computer glitch as the company handed over control of ".edu" registrations to Educause, the academic-technology consortium.
