Colleges Hit by Rita Face Major Repairs and an Uncertain Future
Students scattered across the Gulf Coast region await permission to return
Colleges in Texas and Louisiana that suffered the most damage in Hurricane Rita now face uncertainty about whether they will be able to reopen anytime soon and, if they cannot, what to do with their students. The hurricane shredded roofs, flooded buildings, and scattered tens of thousands of college students across the region after roaring ashore on September 24 near the Texas-Louisiana border.
