Colleges Large and Small Help International Students Adjust to American Life

Portland, Ore.
Portland State University, a booming campus in the heart of this city's downtown, bills itself as the largest university in Oregon. But the 39 students from Saudi Arabia who arrived here to study four years ago were nonetheless hard to miss.
They seemed to arrive on the campus all at once, supported by the inaugural year of Saudi Arabia's generous King Abdullah Scholarship Programme, which supports Saudi students studying abroad. They tended to be loud and talkative, at times
