Colleges Fail to Teach American History and 'Civic Literacy,' Report Says
A merican colleges and universities are failing to instill "civic literacy" in their students, according to a report last week by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.
Most students who responded to a survey fumbled, the report says, when asked to name the final battle of the American Revolution (Yorktown), incorrectly defined "federalism" (the distribution of power between a central authority and several constituent states), and failed to identify the purpose of the Monroe Doctrine
