Colleges Collaborate on Software That Would Allow Ad-Free 'Portal' Sites
Ivy League and state colleges are among the institutions pitching in to help create campus "portal" software, with source code that will be free to any college or university that wants to use it. The participating institutions say their code, which creates customized views of student and employee information, will give colleges an advertising-free alternative to the free portal services offered by some commercial vendors.
