College Uses Internet to Carry Voice Calls

Ontario's Lakehead University is setting up a campus network that university and telephone-company officials say will be the largest in North America to carry voice conversations using a basic Internet networking standard. Few institutions have installed such systems because the technology for carrying voice conversations over what are known as Internet-protocol networks -- or I.P. networks -- is relatively new.
