College Teams as Minor Leagues

"The Boys of Summer ... and Fall, Winter, and Spring" (The Chronicle, July 16) does not mention the huge difference between baseball and the other major college sports, basketball and football. In basketball and football, an athletically talented high-school senior must play for a college in order to train for a professional career, regardless of academic talent or intent (there are few exceptions to this rule). ...
