College Leaders Ask Senate to Confirm Nominee for a Key Post in Education Dept.

As Congress hurries to finish its business for the year, college leaders are pressing lawmakers to accomplish one more item on their to-do list: approve A. Lee Fritschler, President Clinton's choice for Assistant Secretary for postsecondary education.

Last week, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee scheduled a meeting for this week to act on the nomination and other pending business. The panel and then the full Senate must vote for the nomination before Mr.
