Wade Larson, head of the wellness program at North Idaho College, says colleagues sometimes peek in his grocery cart to see what he is eating.

It's not unusual for people to stop Wade Larson at a local Costco store, peer into his cart, and ask: "Whatcha got in there?" Recently Mr. Larson, who is director of human resources at North Idaho College, had to explain to an instructor that the corn dogs in his cart were not for him but for his 17-year-old son.
