College Board Researchers Defend New Essay Component of SAT
The SAT's essay-writing component has been accused of many sins.
Now scholars at the College Board, the nonprofit organization that oversees the SAT, have risen to defend the writing assessment. In a study presented last week at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association, three researchers reported that scores on the writing assessment are not, in general, linked to irrelevant traits like handwriting or sheer wordiness.
