College Administrators, Not Managers

To the Editor:

Wilfred M. McClay's praise of George Keller is most welcome ("George Keller: Intellectual Whirlwind," The Chronicle Review, November 23). While I did not know him as well as McClay did, during my years in administration, I counted him among my most-trusted confidants. I found his Academic Strategy: The Management Revolution in American Higher Education both practical and intellectually rigorous.
