Colin Powell Gives City College of N.Y. $1-Million

City College of the City University of New York announced this afternoon that Colin L. Powell, the former secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is donating $1-million to a policy-studies center at CCNY that he founded in 1997.

As a result of the gift, the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies will expand its program offerings and facilities. Mr. Powell, a 1958 graduate of the college, previously donated more than $350,000 for a scholarship that bears his parents’ names.

Mr. Powell also announced the names of 20 people, many of them celebrities, who will serve on the center’s advisory council. Among them are Tom Brokaw, Carly Fiorina, Vernon Jordan, Henry Kissinger, Elie Wiesel, and Mort Zuckerman.
