Colgate Professor Sparks Furor With Comments on Minority Students' Achievement
A political-science professor at Colgate University has set off a barrage of criticism by charging that professors on his campus give minority students "undeservedly high grades" and let them discuss their "feelings" in class rather than encourage them to offer "reasoned opinions."
The remarks have prompted a variety of reactions, including a daylong sit-in that minority students staged last week in Colgate's main administration building. About 60 students gathered in James B. Colgate
