Colby College to Receive $100-Million Collection of American Art

Colby College announced today that it had received a promised gift of one of the top collections of American art in private hands. The collection, valued at more than $100-million, consists of more than 500 paintings, sculptures, and prints by Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, John Singer Sargent, James McNeill Whistler, and other masters.

The donors are Peter and Paula Lunder, who are longtime supporters of the college and its museum. The gift is one of the largest consisting of art ever given to an American college or university. —Andrew Mytelka
