Clinton Signs Budget and Will Support Extending Tax Breaks on Education
President Clinton has signed the remaining budget bills for fiscal-year 2000. Administration officials said he also planned to sign legislation that would extend two tax benefits important to higher education, and change the way interest rates are set for student loans.
The budget includes a $2.3-billion increase for the National Institutes of Health and a maximum Pell Grant of $3,300, as well as more funds for work-study programs and some campus-based aid
