Clinton Competes for Young Voters

Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has been trailing Barack Obama among young voters, is making an effort to win over college students.

After her disappointing third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses last week, Ms. Clinton announced that she would spend the days leading up today’s primary in New Hampshire doing “as much as I can to talk about my record in creating opportunities for young people,” according to Politico. Since then, Ms. Clinton has held a question-and-answer session at the University of New Hampshire and hosted a round table with undecided young voters aboard her campaign bus.

She is also allowing voters to ask her questions directly through Facebook, an online social-networking site popular with college students. She says she’ll answer them on video.

But some observers wonder whether the Clinton campaign, which has been criticized for describing Obama supporters as “looking like Facebook” (a remark some interpreted as disparaging of the youth vote), is too late to the game. Today’s results from New Hampshire may tell.
